About the Camp

Big Dreams.
All Levels.
True Community.

The Hatteras Island FC Elite Camp is four days of serious, fun, high-energy soccer — right here at home. We've brought together an exceptional group of coaches with Division I, professional, and international backgrounds because we believe the kids of Hatteras Island deserve exactly that kind of environment.

You don't need to be the best player on the field to thrive here. You need to love the game, bring your energy, and show up ready to work. Beginners and serious competitors train side by side — grouped by age and ability so everyone is pushed at the right level. Directed by Ian O'Neal, HIFC Program Director, Hatteras Varsity Head Coach, and 2024 NCHSAA Regional 1A Coach of the Year.

  • Hybrid training: outdoor grass fields & indoor futsal courts
  • Grouped by age and skill — every player is challenged at the right level
  • Beginners, rec players, and serious competitors all welcome
  • Transportation provided between training locations
  • Financial aid available — just reach out, no questions asked

Coaching Staff

Elite Coaches.
Real Credentials.

We are incredibly proud of the staff we've put together for this camp. These are coaches who have played and worked at the highest levels of the game — and they're here because they love soccer and they love this community. You won't find a lineup like this anywhere else on the Outer Banks.

02
Steve Shaw
Two-time Hall of Fame inductee.
Steve Shaw is a two-time inductee into soccer halls of fame, recognized for a career of extraordinary impact as an instructor and developer of players. A former collegiate head coach and globe-trotting instructor with extensive experience in China, Africa, and beyond, Shaw has been making the trip to Hatteras Island for over 20 years. He is the rare kind of coach whose influence is felt not just in wins and losses, but in the careers and lives of the players he shapes.
03
Bob Bigney
Decades in the game. Still loves to teach.
Coach Bob is one of the most decorated club developers in the game. Holding multiple US coaching licenses and a résumé that spans some of the most respected programs in American soccer — Beach FC, Lee Mount Vernon, and most notably the El Paso Locomotive, where he built their academy from the ground up. Coach Bob's work at the professional level speaks for itself, and the players who've come through his programs speak even louder. We are proud to have him on this island.
04
Brendan Hogan
Knows what the next level actually takes.
A serious soccer instructor with experience across competitive collegiate, club, and international environments — including firsthand exposure to Dutch and German development systems. He has served as a head coach at established Virginia-area clubs. For campers who want to play at the next level, he knows exactly what that path demands and how to help players start walking it.
05
PJ Allen
Lived the whole journey. Now passing it on.
Virginia Player of the Year in high school, Division I career at Eastern Illinois after successful junior college play. Assistant coach at EIU post-career, now preparing for his inaugural D3 Head Coach role. PJ represents the full arc of a serious player's journey — and brings that lived experience directly to campers.
06
Bella Ventimiglia & Ellie Diehl
Active NCAA Tournament players.
Bella and Ellie are not just college players — they are active competitors for a Christopher Newport University women's program that has earned its place in the NCAA Tournament. They know firsthand what it takes to reach that level: the discipline, the mindset, the sacrifices, and the joy. As HIFC summer interns, they bring fresh, high-energy coaching energy and a specific commitment to mentoring female players who dream of competing beyond high school. If you're a young woman who wants to know what the college game really looks like from the inside, these are the coaches to learn from.
